Privacy policy

Last updated: May 31, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Build Clean Slate ("Build Clean Slate," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information when you visit buildcleanslate.com (the "Site"), purchase our digital products, or use our services. Build Clean Slate is a sole proprietorship based in New York, United States.

By using the Site, you agree to the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. Who we are

Build Clean Slate sells digital products (Shopify themes and related digital assets) and done-for-you services such as theme installation, full store setup, and custom design work. For any privacy questions or requests, contact us at support@buildcleanslate.com.

Our Site is hosted on Shopify. Shopify processes certain information on our behalf as part of providing the e-commerce platform.

2. Information we collect

Information you provide to us

  • Order & purchase information: name, email address, billing details, and the products or services you buy when you place an order or check out.
  • Service inquiries: when you submit a service request form, we collect details such as your name, email, phone number, store URL, project details, and any files or links you share.
  • Newsletter sign-ups: your email address (and any tags you provide) when you subscribe.
  • Live chat: messages and contact details you send through our Shopify Inbox chat widget.
  • Support communications: the contents of emails or messages you send us.
  • License information: the email address and order details associated with the license keys we issue for our digital products, so we can generate, verify, and support your license.

Information we collect automatically

When you visit the Site, we and our providers automatically collect certain information about your device and activity, including your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring URLs, pages viewed, and how you interact with the Site. This is collected using cookies and similar technologies (see Section 5).

Payment information

Payments are processed by Shopify and its payment partners. Your full payment card details are handled directly by those processors under their own security standards — we do not store your full card number.

3. How we use your information

  • Process and deliver your orders, digital downloads, and license keys.
  • Provide and complete the services you request.
  • Respond to your inquiries, live-chat messages, and support requests.
  • Send transactional emails (order confirmations, license details, service updates).
  • Send marketing emails and newsletters, where you have signed up or where otherwise permitted (you can opt out anytime).
  • Operate, secure, maintain, and improve the Site and our products.
  • Measure and improve our advertising, including through the Meta Pixel.
  • Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security issues.
  • Comply with our legal obligations and enforce our terms.

Legal bases (EEA/UK visitors)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your personal data on these legal bases: performance of a contract (to deliver your orders and services), legitimate interests (to secure and improve our Site and market our products), consent (for marketing emails and non-essential cookies/advertising, where required), and legal obligation (to meet tax, accounting, and other legal requirements).

4. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information for money. We share information only as described here:

  • Service providers: companies that help us operate, including Shopify (hosting, checkout, payments, analytics), payment processors, email/marketing providers, and our license-key infrastructure provider (Cloudflare). They may only use your information to provide services to us.
  • Advertising partners: we use the Meta Pixel to measure and target advertising on Facebook and Instagram. This involves sharing certain online activity and identifiers with Meta. Under some U.S. state laws, this may be considered "selling" or "sharing" your personal information (see Section 7).
  • Legal & safety: when required by law, subpoena, or to protect our rights, customers, or the security of the Site.
  • Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

5. Cookies and tracking technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to run the Site, remember your preferences, analyze traffic, and support advertising. The main categories are:

  • Essential cookies — required for the Site, cart, and checkout to function (set by Shopify).
  • Analytics cookies — help us understand how visitors use the Site (Shopify's built-in analytics).
  • Advertising cookies — used by the Meta Pixel to measure ad performance and show you relevant ads.

You can control cookies through your browser settings and, where available, through the cookie/privacy preferences banner on our Site. You can also opt out of interest-based advertising via Meta's ad settings, aboutads.info, and youronlinechoices.eu (EU). We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where required by law.

6. Data retention

We keep personal information for as long as needed to fulfill the purposes in this Policy — for example, to deliver your orders, support your license keys, meet tax and accounting obligations, and resolve disputes. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it.

7. Your privacy rights

EEA / UK (GDPR)

If you are in the EEA or UK, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data; to object to processing; to data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

California (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use and disclose it; to request access to and deletion of your information; to correct inaccurate information; and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information and of targeted advertising. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information: Because we use the Meta Pixel for advertising, our use of advertising cookies may be considered "selling" or "sharing" under California law. To opt out, adjust the cookie/privacy preferences on our Site, enable a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal in your browser, or email us at support@buildcleanslate.com.

All visitors

Regardless of where you live, you may contact us at support@buildcleanslate.com to access, update, or delete your personal information, or to unsubscribe from marketing. We will verify your request and respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. You may authorize an agent to make a request on your behalf.

8. Marketing communications

If you receive marketing emails from us, you can opt out at any time by clicking "unsubscribe" in any email or by emailing support@buildcleanslate.com. We will still send you transactional messages related to your orders, licenses, and services.

9. International data transfers

We are based in the United States, and our providers (including Shopify and Meta) may process your information in the United States and other countries. These countries may have different data-protection laws than yours. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for international transfers.

10. Data security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures — including the security provided by Shopify's platform — to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Children's privacy

The Site is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Third-party links

The Site may link to third-party websites or services we do not control. This Policy does not apply to those sites, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices. Please review their policies.

13. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be posted on this page, and your continued use of the Site means you accept the updated Policy.
